First Day, Monday, November 14, 2016
Holy Smokes, it could not be any more gorgeous up here. The sun has been out all day and right now it is 62 degrees. The sun is shining off Lake Ossipee with the mountains in the background. This is an Ansel Adams moment. It looks like the rest of the week is going to be in the 50s and relativity sunny.Thank you parents and guardians for getting your children to CVS this morning for send off. The ride up was uneventful. The kids watched Wreck it Ralph and talked. Some slept. Once we hit Camp Cody the cheers erupted. The kids exited the bus and headed straight for the field. Once they were put into their field groups with the other schools, Lincoln-Thomson and Callahan, we all headed into the dining hall. For lunch we had grilled cheese sandwiches, french fries, and tomato soup. They also have a salad bar that many of the kids went for. So you don't have to worry about your child eating up here.
The class choices they had for today were, egg drop, wild edibles, rock skipping physics, haiku, shelters, and animotion. After they are done with the classes they have transition time where the students can relax, play games, talk, and just basically hang out and be kids.
Dinner tonight was Chinese chicken, rice, and sauteed veggies. The kids seemed to really like it, even the veggies.
Egg Drop |
Tonight the kids are participated in a Science Fair. Some of the things they learned about are why money doesn't burn easily, how flour can catch fire, why warm water reacts faster with Alka Seltzer than cold water, and the reaction between yeast, hydrogen peroxide, and Dawn dish detergent.
Hopefully this will not be a late night!!
Can flour catch on fire? Why yes it can. |

I bet Mr. Held is wishing he could be up there right now with all that Science going on. Chemical reactions, egg drop adventures, flaming flour......what's not to love? Start thinking about the Science Fair, Grade 5! You may get an idea of what concepts you want to dive into while you are up there.
I've ordered a sunny day for you today (Wednesday)!
