Tuesday Day 2!

The girls in Oak Cabin had a fun game of charades before bed last night! After morning showers, the students had a little bit of free time then headed off to their first breakfast at Outdoor Classroom: pancakes, chicken sausage, yogurt, fruit and cereal. After breakfast they split up into their field groups and participated in more team building exercises and nature hikes. Taco Tuesday for lunch which consisted of soft and hard chicken and beef tacos, rice and broccoli. There is also an awesome salad bar open at all lunches and dinners. At each meal, students take turns being a waitron for their table. They are responsible for setting the table, bringing the food platters to the tables, and then clean up at the end of the meal.  After lunch students went off to their first class of the week. I will post again later tonight or in the morning once I get pics and info for the rest of their day:)

A Few More Pics From Last Night!

Day 1 Cont'd

After the bus arrived this morning, the kids broke up into groups and met their field groups leaders for the week, They played some games in the field then headed into the dining hall for their first lunch: chicken sandwiches, french fries and apple slices! After lunch they met back into their groups and learned about what classes they could choose for the rest of the week. (We will hear more about classes soon.) Next they went for a walk in the woods looking at trees and investigating nature..even spotted a snapping turtle! Finally it was time to move into the cabins, pick bunks and quickly put away their stuff. After move in they had some free time where they played soccer, cornhole, tennis, and some just enjoyed hanging out and talking with their friends. All week the students will be learning about and working on what Outdoor Classroom calls the 4Cs: Caring, Communication, Courage, and Curiosity. I won't give away too much about it, but ask you child all about it when they get back on Friday. Dinner was spaghetti, meatballs, green beans, breadsticks, and chocolate pudding for dessert. Tonight they will learn more about the 4C challenge for the week and end the night with quiet sing before heading back to the cabins.

Last Night!

We had a great last night at camp. After an all day hike, the kids enjoyed some hot chocolate then headed onto the cabins to warm up for awhile. We had orange chicken, rice and veggies for dinner. "TNL"(Thursday Night Live) was a huge hit! The kids performed skits that were hilarious. Then we headed outside for a campfire and smores before our last quiet sing for the week. I'd like to thank our chaperones for all their help with the kids this week. We had a fantastic week and our Aborn kids were the best!!

Thursday Morning

French toast and bacon to start the day! After another crazy Moose song for entertainment, the kids packed up a bag lunch and headed out on their all day hike. They are expected back around 3:30. We will have a longer transition time before dinner so they can rest (or run around the cabin 😂.) The students have been passing around necklaces with a C bead on it. They learned about cooperation, commitment, caring, and communication while living and learning together. If they receive a necklace for something they did showing one of the 4 C's, they have an hour of power and then they find someone else to share it with. This morning Ben and Ronald were given the necklaces that you see in the pics below. Also there are pics of the dining hall where you can see the moose hanging over the fireplace, the lake at sunset, and some of the kids.

Wednesday Night

As our first full day comes to an end, the students are now enjoying quiet sing and they sound great! They just finished the night experience called "Back to Basics" where they learned about old fashioned games, making butter, weaving and more. For dinner we had garlic bread, roasted veggies and cheese tortellini. For entertainment they learned some interesting facts about the Outdoor Classroom instructors. Ask your children about the 4 C's and being a waitron when they get home. Looking like an early night because they are totally exhausted!
