Day 3

Wednesday, October 7, 2015
Sorry for the delay in this post. The internet up here is very unreliable.  Anyways, the day started out just like the others, waking up the boys with heavy metal.  The girls get more gentle waking up of Mrs. Hennessey saying, "Alright girls, time to get up".  They are so lucky they aren't with me.  After a breakfast of eggs, bacon, fruit, and bagels the kids were off to their first class.  I watched a rat dissection and a frog dissection.  These are the kind of things the kids definitely won't get to do in our classrooms.  They were so excited about the classes.  Others made containers to protect their eggs when they drop off a 25 ft drop and some painted their rock buddies.
After a short break they came back to the dining hall to pack their lunches for the long hike.  This is when they are gone for 4 hours hiking through the woods of Freedom.  Some of them catch frogs and salamanders, others roast marshmallows and others will go explore the abandoned airfield.  It is a tiring time but the kids love it.
For dinner they had chicken fingers and corn on the cob.  I was amazed at how much corn was eaten. For the night time activity the kids had another hike.  This time there was no light involved.  It was the Night Experience Hike.  They went out in total darkness and learned how lifesavers make sparks, used a flint and steel to start a fire, and experienced what it was like to be an owl.

Day 2

Tuesday, October 6, 2015,
From what I hear from the teachers and parents last night was a challenge getting the kids to sleep for some.  I can't blame the kids because they are so excited.   However, for me I couldn't wait to wake them up to the sweet sounds of Metallica.  I so look forward to this every year. After an uneventful breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, cereal, and yogurt the kids had transition time.  this is the time they can play basketball, soccer, tennis, hang out, etc....  Then they signed for their afternoon classes and went out with their field groups for a hike in the woods.
I don't know why but they served chili for lunch but the kids loved it.  They don't take into consideration how bad the cabins already smell with the feet. :0.   They also had chicken sandwiches for lunch.  One thing is for sure the food is flowing like a river here.
Taco Tuesday!!  Need I say more?  As you can see from the pictures the kids are taking some awesome classes.  Some of them are water rockets, build a bridge, dream catchers, alternative energy, roller coasters and the science behind them, and jellybellyology.
Tonight they are having a multicultural fair in the rec hall.  They will travel around the world and learn about different cultural around the globe.  Then it is on to quiet sing.  The counselors play guitar and sing with the kids.

Day 1

Monday October 5, 2015
Well we have arrived safely after a great trip on the highways and byways of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  As soon we arrived the kids were put to work unloading the bus.   They had that bus done in minutes.  Afterwards they all gathered in the field and played games, were introduced to the staff, and made new friends.   Then on to lunch.  Today's menu consisted of grilled cheese, tomato soup, make your own PBJ, and the salad bar (a huge hit).

Later on the kids went back to the cabins to get their stuff settled after dragging it all the way from the rec hall. The kids are wild about sleeping in cabins with bunk beds.  They had field group where they went for a walk in the woods.  Some kids came back pretty muddy because they were catching salamanders.  They had a ton of fun.

For dinner they had spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread.  If their is one thing that will not happen to your child is starvation.  There is so much food that is served.  After dinner the kids went outside for Entertainment.  While they were sitting on the bleachers two deer came out of the woods. A mother and her baby.  The kids loved it.  This is the kind of thing many of the kids won't see in Lynn.  Tonight they are having a science fair.  They learned about various scientific things then participated in and watch science experiments.  Their were some cool ones with fire.  Don't worry the kids were far enough away.
Something tells me they will not be going to sleep early tonight.  They are wired from all this activity.
