After the bus arrived this morning, the kids broke up into groups and met their field groups leaders for the week, They played some games in the field then headed into the dining hall for their first lunch: chicken sandwiches, french fries and apple slices! After lunch they met back into their groups and learned about what classes they could choose for the rest of the week. (We will hear more about classes soon.) Next they went for a walk in the woods looking at trees and investigating nature..even spotted a snapping turtle! Finally it was time to move into the cabins, pick bunks and quickly put away their stuff. After move in they had some free time where they played soccer, cornhole, tennis, and some just enjoyed hanging out and talking with their friends. All week the students will be learning about and working on what Outdoor Classroom calls the 4Cs: Caring, Communication, Courage, and Curiosity. I won't give away too much about it, but ask you child all about it when they get back on Friday. Dinner was spaghetti, meatballs, green beans, breadsticks, and chocolate pudding for dessert. Tonight they will learn more about the 4C challenge for the week and end the night with quiet sing before heading back to the cabins.
Every year our 5th graders take a week long trip to Camp Cody in Freedom, NH. This trip is the highlight of the year. Many parents are nervous about sending their child away for a week. I use this blog to calm their worries and show them that the kids are having a blast and being well taken care of.
